Saka is the recipient of 2017 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Public Service Award. This is a special award that recognizes distinguished public service to a country, state, community, or the public through excellence in leadership, service, or humanitarianism, provided the service is above the requirements of employment and is therefore not a compensated activity.
The primary criteria cited for Saka’s recognition was his exemplification of excellence in selfless service, leadership and humanitarianism, through his active involvement in the training and mentoring of several students. Saka’s primary platforms for his public service are the SPE and four of the leading centers of excellence in Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences in Nigeria. He is a visiting scholar at the Institute of Petroleum Studies, University of Port Harcourt (2010 till date).
He was involved in the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering, University of Benin in 2012 and has since been a visiting lecturer at the institute. Saka is also a visiting Associate Professor at African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, since 2013 and more recently, an adjunct faculty at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Ibadan.
In addition, he has been directly responsible for the education of several indigent kids, including scholarships indigent students in various higher institutions across Nigeria.
