FIRST E&P at the Energy Council / Olaniwun Ajayi’s 3rd Annual African Breakfast Briefing

On Wednesday, June 19th, The Energy Council hosted the 3rd Annual African Breakfast Briefing in partnership with Olaniwun Ajayi. This year’s theme focused on Africa’s Energy Transition – Leveraging Natural Gas to Achieve Energy Sustainability. We are proud to announce that Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, our Managing Director, delivered the keynote address at this significant event. Additionally, Abimbola Ayinde, GM Upstream Commercial and Corporate Finance, participated as a panelist alongside representatives from Shell, Chariot Limited, and Olaniwun Ajayi.

The pivotal discussions at the event addressed several crucial questions:

  • Unlocking Natural Gas Potential: Given the significant natural gas reserves across Africa, what must public and private stakeholders do to unlock this capability? Is gas the transitional fuel poised to overcome the energy poverty limiting growth on the continent?
  • Energy-Based Financing in Africa: Reviewing the current state of energy-based financing across Africa, which funding models are best suited to these investments? Where can operators raise the necessary capital, and which financiers are most open to lending?
  • Domestic Deployment of African Oil and Gas: Achieving energy security while reducing energy poverty across the continent requires African oil and gas to be deployed domestically. This is conditional on improving infrastructure in storage, transportation, and across the grid. Which projects are showcasing this in a financially sustainable way, and can this model be replicated elsewhere?
  • Balancing Decarbonization and Energy Security: How can we balance decarbonization efforts, energy security needs, and the eradication of energy poverty when considering the optimal energy source investment strategy?
